Historic District museums and businesses launch new summer event ahead of 2026

Historic Philadelphia and museums and businesses throughout Old City will debut a new event this summer that aims to highlight Philadelphia’s vital role in the nation’s history ahead of the country’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

Red, White & Blue To-Do’s inaugural event will take place on July 2 at locations throughout the Historic District, which runs from the Delaware River to 7th Street and from Vine to Lombard streets. The daylong celebration is an homage to July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted in Philadelphia to declare American independence, two days before the Declaration of Independence was officially signed.

The celebration has been in the works for about a year and a half after cultural and historic institutions and businesses within the Historic District began looking for a way to coordinate their plans for 2026. Vince Stango, COO and executive vice president of the National Constitution Center, said the event will help convey the area’s “unique significance” in the founding of the nation to the rest of the city and the country ahead of the banner year.
